House Fire in Moberly Claims Two Lives

On January 28th, the Moberly Fire Department responded to a fire call for a residence located at 115 South Fifth Street in Moberly, Missouri. At approximately 1:15 a.m., the fire broke out in the home's kitchen. Neighbors reported hearing explosions, which were believed to be caused by therapeutic oxygen tanks inside the home.

At the time of the fire, three people were in the home. Britney Tessman, 18 of Mexico, Missouri, Rebecca Jackson Skinner, 56 of Moberly, Missouri and an unnamed 26 year old man. The man escaped with minor injuries, but the two women perished in the fire.

The bodies were taken to the Boone County Medical Examiner for autopsies. Gerald Luntsford, Randolph County Coroner, named the cause of death for the two women as smoke inhalation and their deaths were ruled as accidental.

CHANGE YOUR CLOCK, CHANGE YOUR BATTERY

Not every state in America participates in the interesting phenomenon of Daylight Savings Time. However, Missouri does.

Since you're already rolling your clocks back on November 1st, why not change the batteries in the smoke alarms in your home too?

Sunday, November 1st marks the return to Standard Time. Energizer Batteries and the International Association of Fire Chiefs are joining together to remind families to take a few extra minutes to install new smoke alarm batteries. It could make the difference in whether your family survives a fire or not. Working smoke alarms can double a family's chance of surviving a fire. According to the National Fire Protection Association, every three hours a home fire death occurs somewhere in the U.S. Having even a few extra seconds from a working smoke alarm could make a huge difference when trying to escape a burning home.

Please make this simple battery change a habit. It's an easy step in keeping your family safe.
