The Law Firm of Tatlow, Gump, Faiella & Wheelan, LLC, hopes you are enjoying a safe and happy holiday season. Home fires are all too common this time of year, and one of the leading causes is unsafe Christmas tree practices. Here are some tips to keep you a little safer:
1. When choosing your tree be sure the needles do not fall off of the tree just by touching them.
2. Also before you put your tree into its stand, cut one to two inches from the base of the trunk.
3. When placing your tree in your house be certain it is not located near any heat sources!
4. Be sure the location of your tree does not block any exits.
5. Add water to your tree daily.
6. When you light your tree, be sure the lights are for indoor use.
7. Check the wires on your lights, if something is broken or loose you should throw them away.
8. Do not use lit candles as a source of lighting for your tree.
9. Turn off the lights whenever you leave your home and before you go to bed.
