Cedar County Accident

Harry Anglen, 55 and Brian Hargrave, 49, both of El Dorado Springs, MO were both transported to Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs for treatment to moderate injuries. The injuries were sustained in an accident that occurred on December 29th at 8:30PM. The location of the accident was on MO- 32 a half mile south of El Dorado Springs.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D, the accident occurred as a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a flatbed trailer that was driven by Johnny Alexander, 46, of Crystal Beach, Texas attempted to turn left from the northbound shoulder and was struck by the 1999 Ford Crown Victoria that was Hargrave.

The accident was investigated by Sergeant Gary Riggs.

December 29, 2010

Cass County Fatality

Jessica Evans, 27, of Butler, MO was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident that occurred on December 28th at 7:06PM in Cass County on US 71 just 1 mile north of Archie.

The accident occurred as Carl Joyce, 20, of Overland Park, KS, who was driving a 1994 Pontiac and Evans who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet were in the southbound lane of US- 71 and collided. After impact, Evans' vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned and came to rest in the left lane of northbound US- 71. Joyce's vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and came to rest in the median. William Denby, 55, of Humansville, MO was driving a 1997 Kenworth in the northbound lane of US- 71 where he struck Evans' vehicle which was disabled from being hit just seconds earlier. Evans was air lifted to Research Medical Center. Carl Joyce was transported by private vehicle to Overland Park Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash was investigated by Sergeant S. Lutjen and was assisted by Sergeant K. Fisher, Corporal M. Fennewald, Sergeant F. Chambers, Trooper K. Schmutzler, Trooper K. Murphy, CVO B. Sanders, Major Crash Team Investigator, Sergeant G. Billings, the Archie Police Department and the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

Callaway County Fatality

Brad Allison, 36, of Mexico, MO was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident by a Boone County Medical Examiner. Allison was a pedestrian who was struck by two cars on December 22nd around 5:28PM on the westbound I- 70 at the 144 mile marker.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F, the accident occurred as Marissa Brown, 18, of Mexico, MO was driving a 2000 Pontiac was on westbound I- 70 and sideswiped Allison who was in the roadway walking away from a previous accident. A second driver, Judy Freeman, 67, of Columbia, MO who was driving a 2008 Jeep then struck Allison head on. Allison was transported to the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office by the Boone County Medical Examiner.

Fatality Accident in Cole County

Carol Hubecky, 63, of Linn, MO was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident that occurred on December 20th at 6:20AM. The location of the accident was on westbound US 50, .6 mile east of Lisletown Road. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F, the accident occurred as a 2001 Mitsubishi driven by Angela Laws, 43, of Jefferson City, MO was driving eastbound in the westbound lane of US 50 and struck Hubecky's 2000 Volkswagon head on. A third vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet, driven by Keith Heymeyer, 52, of Morrison, MO then struck Hubecky's vehicle in the side.

Hubecky was transported to Capital Region Hospital in Jefferson City. Jacqueline Herndon, 39, of Linn, Mo, an occupant of Hubecky's vehicle was taken to University Hospital in Columbia, MO for treatment to serious injuries. Angela Laws was also taken to University Hospital for treatment to serious injuries. Heymeyer sustained minor injuries but was not treated.

Franklin County Accident Injures Woman

April Mason-Carolyn, 30, of Lonedell, MO was taken by Meramec Ambulance District to St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, for treatment of minor injuries that were sustained in an accident on December 12th at 4:55PM. The location of the accident was at Route O, west of Shannon Lane in Franklin County, MO.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C, the accident occurred as Mason-Carolyn and an unknown vehicle were westbound on Route O. Carolyn applied her brakes to slow for road and weather conditions. The unknown vehicle behind her failed to slow causing the front of that vehicle to strike the back of Carolyn's vehicle. The force between the cars caused Carolyn's 2000 Ford Escort to slide of the roadway and strike a utility pole, with the other vehicle fleeing the scene.

Ray County Motor Vehicle Accident Leaves 2 in Serious Condition

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A, an accident that occurred on December 11th at 10:00AM on 230th just .2 mile before Davis Road left two in serious condition.
Those involved were Michael Shilts, 21, of Lawson, MO, who was driving a 1990 Ford and David Hochart, 60, also of Lawson, MO who was driving a 2005 Dodge. The accident occurred as Shilts who was eastbound crested a hill and struck Hochart.

Shilts was transported to Liberty Hospital and Hochart was taken to North Kansas City Hospital. The accident was investigated by Trooper R. McCormick.

Christmas Tree Safety Tips

The Law Firm of Tatlow, Gump, Faiella & Wheelan, LLC, hopes you are enjoying a safe and happy holiday season. Home fires are all too common this time of year, and one of the leading causes is unsafe Christmas tree practices. Here are some tips to keep you a little safer:

1. When choosing your tree be sure the needles do not fall off of the tree just by touching them.
2. Also before you put your tree into its stand, cut one to two inches from the base of the trunk.
3. When placing your tree in your house be certain it is not located near any heat sources!
4. Be sure the location of your tree does not block any exits.
5. Add water to your tree daily.
6. When you light your tree, be sure the lights are for indoor use.
7. Check the wires on your lights, if something is broken or loose you should throw them away.
8. Do not use lit candles as a source of lighting for your tree.
9. Turn off the lights whenever you leave your home and before you go to bed.

Jefferson County Accident Injures Two

Lisa Oberfeld, 51, and Zachaly Oberfeld, 13, both of High Ridge, MO sustained moderate injuries in an accident that occured on Decmeber 2nd at 4:30PM. The location of the accident was on Highway 141 North of Romaine Creek Road in Jefferson County, Missouri.

According the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C, Oberfeld was driving a 1998 Cadillac and was stopped in traffic. Routh Livingston, 37, of Festus, MO was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang and failed to stop her vehicle when she came upon stopped traffic in front of her and she struck the rear of Oberfeld's vehicle.
The Oberfelds were taken by Rock Township Ambulance to St. Anthony's Medical Center.

St. Francois Fatality

Lydia Cook, 53, of Mineral Point, MO was killed in a car accident that occured at 6:00PM on December 2nd. The location of the accident was on Highway 47, 15 feet west of Stork Road. Cook was taken to Mineral Area Morgue by St. Francois County Coroner.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop B, the accident occured as Cook was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix westbound, while both Sharon Gowen, 53, of Bonne Terre, MO, driving a 1992 Mitsubishi Expo and Jeffrey Brooks, 46, of Cadet, MO, driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, were headed eastbound. Gowen attempted to make a turn into a private driveway and failed to yield to Cook. The right front of Cook's vehicle struck the right rear side of Gowens' vehicle. After impact, Cook crossed the center line and the left front of Cook's vehicle struck the left front of Brook's vehicle.

Jeffrey Brooks and his passenger, Sallie Brooks, 45, of Cadet, Mo, both sustained moderate injuries and were taken by St. Francois County Ambulace to Parkland Health Center in Farmington.
